My name is Alexis from Northern Virginia and so far the past 10 days have been overwhelming yet such a learning experience. We’ve already traveled to a variety of different places and met with 3 different photographers with various shooting styles and perspectives. Overall, the past week and a half has been filled with so many learning experiences and I’m excited to see what the next few weeks bring!
Last week we had the opportunity to travel to Brooklyn to visit the VII gallery located in DUMBO which features up-and-coming artists. I loved the work featured by one of the photographers: Venetia Dearden. In her photo book 8 Days, Venetia captures an eight day road trip through Nevada during the Burning Man Festival. During this time she photographed the life of the young people living happily and free. What interested me about her photos is the way she was able to capture close-up, intimate moments that seemed as if the subjects didn’t even acknowledge her presence. I also think her previous work in commercial photography is visable in a lot of the work she presented. Again, she showed a close-up perspective of the lives of these young people as they travel freely through the west and her work was truely an inspiration for me as I continue to expand my knowledge of photography.
